About our Heli Hikes
Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures offer 2 types of Heli Hike.
‘Fly One Way’:
This package includes a flight to the 7.5km or 10km mark on our MTB track the Kaimanawa Descent. From here you gain views of the volcanic plateau before beginning your descent down through native Mountain, Silver and Red beech forest. The descent from the top back down to our base is of 600m with very little up hill.
Please note this package can only be done after 2.30pm as there will be riders on the trail prior to your walk.
‘Fly Both Ways’
This package includes a flight to our trail head 1650m above sea level and the start of our 23km MTB track the Kaimanawa Descent (Start point pictured above). From this incredible view point you will get views of the volcanic plateau, Lake Taupo Basin and the Kaimanawa Ranges. This section of the trail is in open alpine terrain. With this package we will drop you at the trail start with a designated pick up time. We will then pick you up from which ever point you have reached on the trail.

We Take Safety Seriously
Here at Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures your safety and enjoyment is of highest priority. To ensure the safety of your ride, Stationed every 2.5km along the trail are track markers with PLBs, First Aid Equipment. Each party will be given a safety card to take with them on the walk explaining what to do in the case of emergency or injury.
